Agency in the Anthropocene

In this piece, the author explores the tension between modern educational demands and the actual capacity for student agency within the framework of the Anthropocene and climate activism. The text critiques prevailing educational models associated with these movements, drawing on environmental humanities research to highlight the inherent contradictions and complexities of human agency in a changing climate. As an alternative, the author proposes a "pedagogy of flourishing."

In an era of poly-crises and inequality, a "biophilic" (life-loving) approach is needed, integrating wisdom from the humanities and Indigenous ontologies to ground progress in dignity and justice for people and planet. This thought piece advocates for a biophilic economy as a "grounded" alternative that supports nature, viewing ecosystems not as resources to be exploited but as partners in creating long-term value. BRIDGES are proud to announce the publication of this piece, featured this month on UNESCO’s Futures Literacy and Foresight Collection of Thought Pieces.

The Young Person’s Guide To Systems Change

The Young Person’s Guide To Systems Change from The 50 Percent (a platform for young leaders supported by The Club of Rome), is designed as a collaborative space that empowers young people to develop a deep understanding of systems thinking and apply it to transform the world around them. It challenges the misconception that systems thinking is too complex for young people, recognising their ability to navigate interconnected challenges.
