Validation

The mission of BRIDGES is to encourage and stimulate transdisciplinary sustainability science projects and activities that bridge diverse knowledge systems. In this way our coalition can contribute valuably to policy action at local, national, regional, and international levels and thereby promote meaningful social transformations.

Our BRIDGES Validation Programme has been developed to advance this mission by offering an international mechanism by which transdisciplinary, humanities-inclusive research projects, educational programmes, and community co-produced initiatives are recognised and showcased for wider knowledge, dissemination and impact.

The ambition is to deliver new and applied knowledge that can help UNESCO Member States achieve the ambitions of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Paris Agreement on Climate Change, Convention on Biodiversity, and other multilateral agreements intended to safeguard the wellbeing of people and planet now and long into the foreseeable future.

Receiving validation highlights your partners’ and your work as an exemplary case and enables the actionable knowledge generated to inform policy discussions and priorities among the Member States of the UNESCO-MOST Intergovernmental Council, while also contributing to vital policy discussions in broader multilateral contexts within UNESCO and the UN system.

We are looking for initiatives that undertake innovative approaches to the co-creation of socio-ecological resilience in real-world contexts—particularly in areas where the challenges and benefits of these transformations are most critical.

The document below provides an overview of the validation process, including:

  • the kinds of initiatives validated by UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES;
  • the expectations and obligations associated with receiving validation; and
  • further clarification on the framing and objectives of the BRIDGES Validation programme.
