‘Young person’s guide to storytelling’

The 50 Percent has just launched the ‘Young person’s guide to storytelling’!

The 50 Percent is a global platform and youth-led organisation, falling under the umbrella of The Fifth Element, a major program of The Club of Rome, which anchors the BRIDGES Club of Rome hub. The 50 Percent are dedicated to empowering young people to drive systems change and make a positive impact in their communities and the world.

Guide summary:

After more than five years dedicated to supporting young storytellers, The 50 Percent initiative has launched 'The Young Person’s Guide to Storytelling', a practical and reflective resource summarising the core lessons from its acclaimed storytelling fellowship program.

This innovative guide inspires imagination, aiming to equip the next generation with one of the most powerful tools for social change. The 50 percent's storytelling fellowship has long supported young people in understanding how narrative fundamentally shapes identity, conflict, and community transformation.

In an era defined by polarisation and division, the guide presents storytelling as a crucial skill for peacebuilding. It serves as both a mirror for personal reflection and a bridge for genuine connection, humanising statistics and interrupting the instinct to "other."

The resource delves into:

  • The essential role of narrative in fostering empathy and humanisation.
  • Techniques for crafting stories that resonate across differences.
  • How language supports peace, connection, and systems transformation.
  • Actionable tools for emotion regulation and responsible communication to reduce social tension.

Complete with narrative frameworks, reflective prompts, and youth insights on polarisation, this guide offers step-by-step guidance to help young people craft impactful stories that strengthen communities and spark imagination.

The guide was published in collaboration with The Fifth Element and The Club of Rome, drawing on research and the lived experience of young leaders.
