LivCom Awards Begin: Focus on Innovative Sustainable Development

The opening ceremony for the 23rd International Awards for Liveable Communities (LivCom Awards) Finals & Forum took place yesterday evening.

The 2025 LivCom Awards Finals are being held in Avcilar, Istanbul, Türkiye and are running from November 18–21, 2025. The Opening Ceremony & Welcome Gala Dinner officially kicked off the competition and forum. It also served as a welcome event for the delegates.

Steven Hartman, BRIDGES Founding Executive Director gave a video presentation during the opening ceremony of which you can view below. 

The finals host 30 cities and 37 projects from 34 countries, all competing for the Liveable Communities awards.

The opening ceremony, marking the beginning of the main events, leads into the Final presentations by the competing cities and projects, on November 19–20. And the Closing Ceremony & Awards Ceremony, will take place on November 21, where the winners of the Whole City, Project, and Technology & Solution Awards will be announced.

The forum is a major international platform for sharing best practices in local environmental management and sustainable development, co-organised with support from UN-Habitat and other UN agencies.

The central theme of the 23rd International Awards for Liveable Communities (LivCom Awards) Finals & Forum in Avcilar, Istanbul, is Culture Innovation for Sustainable Urban Future. This theme focuses on how cultural practices, heritage, and innovative ideas rooted in local identity can be leveraged to drive sustainable development and improve the quality of life in cities.
