Greenland Response project update

Greenland Response Film information:

Archaeological sites across the circumpolar north are rapidly degrading as a consequence of rising global temperatures. This short film shares the story of the Greenland RESPONSE project and the archaeologists racing to record and rescue what is left. Focussing on the sub-arctic farming landscape of Kujataa, south Greenland, the film documents the excavations of Norse (Viking) farming settlements dating between the 10th-14th centuries, while exploring the very tangible connections to present-day Inuit farming communities working the same soil.

Update on the Greenland RESPONSE NABO project (a UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES project) on the ongoing digital work connecting Iceland and Greenland.

The film Greenland Response is being featured on the Archaeology Channel for their upcoming "Strata: Portraits of Humanity" show which is on cable TV in the US and some countries in Europe. The film is also being shown by the Heritage Broadcasting Service for streaming. The film also got into the Firenze Archaeofilm Festival, Serbest International Film Festival (semi-finalist) and the Archaeology Channel International film festival.

Greenland Response was also featured on Greenlandic KNR news and Visit Greenland. It has also been picked up by a number of major cruise ship companies including Hurtigruten and Ponant. Additionally, Dr. Alice Watterson (Rannsóknasetur á Hornafirði / Hornafjordur Research Centre Háskóli Íslands / University of Iceland) was interviewed for (and the film is included in) the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators knowledge base for guides.

Currently being  developed is a series of "infographic" style digital media for local dissemination in south Greenland this year, and work is being carried out with Lasse Meyer who is the new curator at the Qaqortoq Museum. Meyer is setting up a brand new educational space at the museum for school groups - so the perfect venue to disseminate RESPONSE outreach locally!
