At the Summit of the Future, which took place on 22-23 September 2024 at the United Nations headquarters in New York, the leaders of countries from all over the world have adopted a Pact for the Future that includes a Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations.
The Pact covers a broad range of themes, including peace and security, sustainable development, climate change, digital cooperation, human rights, gender, youth, future generations and the transformation of global governance.
The Pact is far from perfect, but it is a crucial foundation that must be extended and perfected over time. The goals of ensuring the well-being of future generations by engaging youth meaningfully as stakeholders and promoting futures literacy, foresight and planning must be built on this Pact's rough-hewn cornerstone.
