Reflections on the Unheard Voices on the Futures Panel at the UN Civil Society Conference in Nairobi. 9 May 2024 – A collaboration between BRIDGES, Club of Rome and Globethics.

Dr Nsah Mala (Kenneth Nsah) Hub Coordinator, Planetary Well-being Hub, Cologne.

One of the activities that I was directly connected to at the UN Civil Society Conference #UNCSC2024 was a side event entitled “Unheard Voices on the Futures,” and jointly organised by BRIDGES Coalition, The Club of Rome and Globethics.

This side event, which took place at the Intergenerational Hub within the UN premises, was an opportunity for the speakers to share their perspectives, aspirations, wishes and voices on issues relating to the future, especially future generations which deserve a seat in such discussions. The intergenerational dialogue nature of the event was characterised by a sitting arrangement that ranged from the most elderly person to the youngest, obviously youth are the closest to future generations.

Dr Luci Attala, Director of UK (Wales) BRIDGES Hub, also the eldest, represented BRIDGES on the panel. Among other contributions, Luci delivered a powerful and poetic letter to future generations, a letter filled with the fire of optimism to work towards sustainability in order to preserve our shared Earth for both present and future generations of humans and nonhumans.

Other great speakers on the panel included Mr Fadi Daou, Executive Director of Globethics, Mr Keshoe lsaiah, a youth climate and environmental champion, from the Maasai indigenous community in Kenya, and Ms Ashley Kitisiya, Fossil Free Africa Campaigner at Laudato Si’ Movement, and the youngest of them all. And the session was moderated by Ms Nolita Thina Mvunelo, programme manager at The Club of Rome.
