The Management of Social Transformations (MOST) Programme cooperates with national authorities, scientific communities and civil society to help UNESCO Member States strengthen the connection between research and policy and between knowledge and action. This is key to fostering positive social change towards inclusive and sustainable development.
The MOST Forum 2024 takes places at UNESCO HQ in Paris on 17 June. With a commitment to unravelling the complexities of governance, The MOST Forum aspires to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on building a sustainable and inclusive future.
Following the MOST Forum 2024 on is an Extraordinary Session of the Intergovernmental Council (IGC) of the MOST Programme on 18 June 2024. The intergovernmental Management of Social Transformations (MOST) Programme has a direct link to its Member States through its Intergovernmental Council (IGC).
The MOST Intergovernmental Council is composed of 35 Member States of UNESCO, elected by UNESCO's General Conference. The Council convenes every two years and establishes the priority areas to be researched, decides on overall policy and funding questions, and handles the relations with governmental authorities.
The IGC Bureau consists of the President of the IGC, 4 Vice-Presidents and a Rapporteur. The IGC Bureau, in cooperation with the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), discusses the issue-driven pertinence of projects and approves the competence and expertise of researchers and policy formulators involved.
Following the Extraordinary Session of the Intergovernmental Council (IGC) of the MOST Programme is the inaugural meeting of the governing council members of UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES coalition.
BRIDGES is a prioritised programme within UNESCO’s Management of Social Transformations section, which is one of UNESCO’s six international science programmes; a humanities-driven transdisciplinary sustainability science coalition focused on solving the social problems highlighted by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The inaugural meeting of the BRIDGES governing council is a pivotal point in the BRIDGES journey; a significant development in the transition from the interim governance structure set in place during the Coalition’s Inaugural General Assembly (May 24-25, 2021), to a permanent governing council. This entails the Interim Executive Group, made up of the Founding Partners (UNESCO, CIPSH and Humanities for the Environment, in consultation with the MOST secretariat) be replaced by a permanent 12-seat Governing Council in which the MOST Bureau will have an ex officio seat.
