Nsah Mala, Co-Ordinator of the Cologne Hub for Planetary Wellbeing, attended the inaugural African Futures conference on 29 October 2024, to explore the latest methodologies in foresight and environmental forecasting in shaping Africa's future.
Organised by African Futures and Institute for Security Studies, the full-day virtual conference brought together about 100 experts in various domains across the globe to discuss different aspects of the futures of the African continent.
The conference focused on vital areas concerned with sustainable development, such as climate change, education, civic involvement, labour markets, and energy transitions.
The conference hosted insightful keynotes and interactive sessions, exploring research, networking and collaboration, and was attended by civil society representatives, researchers and policy-makers, with a focus on Africa’s future through the lens of foresight and informed decision-making.
Nsah comments “I had the honour to present some insights from my participatory, transdisciplinary foresight research on Congo Basin Futures and Royal Animals Futures; research which is supported by Next Generation Foresight Practitioners at the School of International Futures (SOIF) and Sharing a Planet in Peril (SAPP) at University of Cologne (UoC).
SAPP is a flagship research project at University of Cologne, involving MESH - Multidisciplinary Environmental Studies in the Humanities, Global South Studies Center University of Cologne (GSSC), and UoC's Thematic Hub for Planetary Wellbeing, within UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES Coalition, among other partner units at UoC and institutions in the Global South.”
