LivCom Awards: Global Recognition for Liveable Communities

The International Awards for Liveable Communities (LivCom Awards), launched in 1997, is a major, UN-backed competition recognising international best practices in local environmental management and development. BRIDGES is delighted to have recently welcomed LivCom Awards as Coalition Members. 

• Objective: To share best practices and improve citizens' quality of life through creating "liveable communities."
• Partnerships: It partners with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and other UN agencies.
• Reach: Over 80 countries have been represented, demonstrating its global value for recognising and sharing city standards.
• Focus: Since 2018, the criteria were upgraded to align with the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
• The Committee: The LivCom Committee is a UK-registered non-profit supported by the UN, conducting research, organising events, and establishing a global network to promote sustainable urban development and innovation.

The LivCom Awards Finals 2025 is taking place in Avcilar Istanbul, Türkiye from 18-21 November, 2025.

Since open for registration, LivCom has received 281 applicants from 52 countries. A total of 30 cities and 37 projects from 34 countries have been invited to the Finals.

Steven Hartman will be sharing comments via video, at the LivCom Awards opening ceremony, as Founding Executive Director of the BRIDGES Coalition in UNESCO's Management of Social Transformations (MOST) programme.

The LivCom Awards Finals will feature several major events organised in collaboration with UN agencies:

• International Forum on Cultural Innovation and Sustainable Urban Development.
• International Training on Healthy & Positive Ageing Cities and Communities.
• USF Conference on Active Ageing and Sustainable Urban Development (Nov 19-20).
• Avcilar Municipality will host city excursions and networking events.
