The aim of the WAAS@65 online conference is to develop concrete measures to address the root causes of the unprecedented global challenges and turbulence threatening peace, stability, human security, and sustainable development. The conference will critically examine these challenges, identify their fundamental origins, formulate actionable strategies for their resolution, and explore the potential catalytic role of the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS) and its partner organizations in this endeavour.
UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES Founding Executive Director, Steven Hartman, will be representing the coalition at the online conference on Monday 21, and Tuesday 22 July. Luci Attala, Deputy Executive Director of BRIDGES and Louise Steel, Director of Research at the UK Hub, will also represent the coalition on Tuesday 22nd July.

Addressing the surface symptoms, specific manifestations, and daily newsworthy dramas which are manifestations of global turbulence in different fields of activity and regions of the world will not restore the conditions of peace, stability and security necessary for humanity’s future progress. This session delves into the root causes and deep drives of the turbulence related to national and global political, military, economic, technological, social, cultural and ecological forces.

The turbulence generated by the speed and complexity of global social evolution is too great to be managed through existing ideas, policies, national and multilateral institutions, and distributions of social power. This session organized by UNESCO MOST Bridges explores the need for development of a comprehensive transdisciplinary approach to the global process and for formulation of effective institutions and strategies to promote an integrated approach to conscious social evolution.
