The a.r.t.e.s. forum 2025 will take place on 10th of July in the New Senate Hall in the university's main building. Everything will revolve around the topic of ‘Disturbance:s’. ‘Disturbance’ is a multifaceted term that can stand for disturbances of all kinds as well as for unrest in the political sense. We want to approach the term from different perspectives, with a thematic spectrum ranging from political events and their cultural processing to the creation and negotiation of normality in a social context.

Our first panel is entitled Dissonances. This deals with dissonances in political and social debates and their representation in culture and the media. The following panel, Disruption, will focus on social interactions and cultural representations. By interrupting or otherwise “disrupting” these, fundamental questions about their nature are raised. In our final panel, we look at Disputed Normalities. Every disruption or disturbance is, by its very nature, preceded by a status quo that is upset. The presentations in this panel will shed light on how this normality is constructed and negotiated.

The day will conclude with ‘Disturbances’, a multimedia exhibition that examines the disruption of normality in both representation and reality. In paintings, photography, video art and short films, ecological and political disturbances as well as the distortions of the media themselves are thematised. The event is open to the public and offers the opportunity to engage in dialogue with the participants of the a.r.t.e.s. forum and the MESH symposium in an atmosphere of creative exchange accompanied by live music.
