Agrivoltaics for Africa – Building Momentum Toward the Platform Launch
This event is led by BRIDGES’ strategic partners at the Consortium for Sustainable Agrivoltaics (C4SA)
"African countries face an increasingly complex convergence of food insecurity, energy access constraints, and climate stress. Rising temperatures, soil degradation, and rainfall variability are reducing agricultural productivity, while nearly half of the continent’s population still lacks reliable electricity. These pressures are slowing development progress and weakening the resilience of rural communities. By optimizing land use while delivering both energy and agricultural benefits, agrivoltaics can contribute to climate adaptation, food systems transformation, and rural economic development.

C4SA African Agrivoltaics Platform Initiative
Recognizing this opportunity, the Consortium for Sustainable Agrivoltaics (C4SA) and its partners are preparing to launch the Agrivoltaics for Africa Platform Initiative, which aims to catalyze research, policy development, and investment in agrivoltaic markets across Africa.
The initiative envisions a coordinated international effort to support pilot projects, enable policies, build technical capacity, and develop early-stage financing mechanisms. A key element under discussion is the potential establishment of an Agrivoltaics for Africa Facility to support project preparation, technical assistance, and catalytic investments in early deployments.
The official launch of the Platform Initiative is planned for April 10, during a technical workshop hosted at OECD headquarters in Paris."
