Join the UK Hub of UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES at the Learning Planet Festival 2025, “The world's annual gathering to transform education” at our online workshop, ‘Cooking up a storm: the power of cooking in the curriculum’.

“From one person’s relationship with the food they eat to global strategies for a sustainable world future, never has food education had a more important role to play in what it means to be human” [Haughton, 2015].

Cooking and eating bring people together; however, with growing reliance on mass-produced food products and fast-food outlets people are increasingly disconnected from their traditional food cultures, resulting in a loss of knowledge and skills alongside increasing food poverty.

Cegin y Bobl (Welsh for the People's Kitchen) and the Square Food Foundation teach people of all ages and abilities from diverse backgrounds to cook good, healthy food from scratch and so to better understand the role food plays in every aspect of life. Cegin Hedyn Kitchen & Allotments, operates as a “pay what you can” cafe, ensuring access to high-quality, seasonal meals for all while supporting local growers. It’s “a place to belong, where meals are shared, friendships bloom, and community thrives.” These schemes provide access to food skills that can transform the lives of individuals and the communities in which they live, improving health and wellbeing and tackling hunger.

This workshop explores how learning to cook is a necessary element in curricula for the 21st century. It seeks to promote dialogue between food specialists and educators about how to combat deprivation and marginalisation . The aim is to imagine a more sustainable future with resilient communities based on a food educated society.

This year, The Learning Planet Festival has a special focus on Co-designing the Future of Learning with Youth, and will be highlighting “impactful collaborations and inspiring events across a variety of pressing topics: Education for Inner Development, for Peace and for Sustainability, AI & Lifelong Learning, and any other perspective you would like to propose for building a more desirable future.”

The Learning Planet Festival “invites all change agents from education, communities, governments, businesses and grass-roots organisations, to join us in creating many hackathons, conferences, workshops, performances, and screenings for this 2025 Festival!”

We invite you to join our workshop, and to discover the many other exciting sessions taking place at the Learning Planet Festival 2025
